🎓 Royal Canadian Legion Branch 76 – Scholarship Program
The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 76 in Qualicum Beach is proud to support the educational aspirations of our community’s youth through our annual scholarship program. Each year, we recognize outstanding students who demonstrate academic excellence, community involvement, and a connection to Canada’s Veterans.
This program is open to students graduating from high school as well as students currently enrolled in a post-secondary education program.
đź’° Scholarships Available
A total of four scholarships are awarded annually:
- Loven Trust: 2 scholarships of $1,000 each
- Cooper Trust: 2 scholarships of $2,000 each
Applicants may apply for one or both scholarships.
👤 Eligibility Requirements
To qualify, applicants must:
- Be a child, grandchild, or great-grandchild of a Veteran, as defined below, or
- Be an active member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 76
- Reside in the Oceanside area
Definition of a Veteran
A Veteran is any individual who:
- Is currently serving or has honorably served in the Canadian Armed Forces, the Commonwealth, or its wartime allies
- Has served as a regular member of the RCMP
- Has served as a peace officer in a special duty area or on a special duty operation
- Has served in the Merchant Navy or Ferry Command during wartime
🎓 Education & Tenure
Scholarship recipients must be enrolled in full-time study at one of the following British Columbia institutions:
- Accredited post-secondary institutions
- Recognized vocational schools
- Certified flight schools
âś… Selection Criteria
Applicants will be assessed based on:
Academic Achievement
- High school applicants:
- University programs: Minimum 80% average
- Vocational programs: Minimum 60% average
- Current post-secondary students:
- Must be maintaining a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
Citizenship & Community Involvement
- Demonstrated volunteerism and engagement in local or community activities

Applications are accepted annually from January 1st to May 30th.
To be considered, applicants must submit:
- A completed Scholarship Application Form
- A cover letter addressed to the Branch 76 Scholarship Committee, outlining:
- Academic achievements
- Extracurricular and community involvement
- Future educational and/or career goals
- (Optional) Any additional information supporting your application

🏅 Selection Process
- All applications will be reviewed by the Branch 76 Scholarship Committee.
- Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview.
- Final selections are based on a points system evaluating grades, volunteer work, community involvement, and interview performance.
Note:
- Recipients must provide proof of registration at an eligible institution before funds are released.
- Scholarship funds are sent directly to the institution in the recipient’s name.
- Recipients have one year to claim their award.
